Intro:
Officially
designated as Part 3 of 5, Vortex is the Combaticons’ resident interrogator. Most
Autobots would probably be able to go head-to-head with Vortex and come out of
top, but once they are captured, they know that they wouldn’t last long being
held captive and interrogated by this interrogator extraordinaire.
Physically
one of the weaker Combaticons, he more than makes it up with his agility in the
air.
Alternate
Mode:
He
is probably the most easily definable of the lot – at least you know that he’s
supposed to be a helicopter-ish kind of contraption – officially called the
Cybertronian Assault Chopper.
He
looks quite menacing and is armed to the teeth, especially with that - machine
gun in front of the cockpit, as well as the two blades sticking out from the
sides.
The
rotor rotates quite freely, better than a lot of other helicopter figures out
there.
The
kibbles are minimal at best and definitely one of the better alternate mode
amongst the Combaticons.
Robot
Mode:
Vortex’s
robot mode probably looks the least hollow of all the Combaticons. He is
proportionately built, and has quite a huge base, thanks to the huge feet.
The
rotor on his left arm can also be used as a weapon, along with the two
gun-sword thingy that he carries.
Articulation-wise:
the head is on a ball joint, as well as the shoulders; the arms rotate slightly
above the soft-ratcheting elbows (the elbow joints can be quite scary
sometimes, as they are quite thin and at times, they feel as if they might
break); there is also a waist joint; the hips are on ball joints, although the
movement can be a bit limited by the groin guard; the legs rotate slightly
below the hips; and finally the knees bend at two places.
In
this mode, he wields a pair of short blades, and along with his spinning rotor,
it indicates that he is a more melee-attack based Decepticon.
Vortex
is definitely one of the better ones of the Combaticons, and I really do dig
him a lot.
Overall:
Vortex
is a good looking figure and probably one of those figures that you might
consider in buying, even though if you’re not planning to collect the entire
Combaticons set.
Recommended.
Final
verdict: 8.5/10.
